KENOSHA — The Year of the Arts and Humanities continues at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with the Community and Alumni Celebration on April 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the new Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities, 900 Wood Road. The event will showcase local arts and humanities organizations to area residents and welcomes UW-Parkside alumni back to campus.
Community and Alumni Celebration events include theater, fine arts, music and literature. The Lakeshore Players’ Children’s Series offers songs from “Captain Louie Jr.” and Disney’s “Beauty and The Beast” while the Racine Theatre Guild hosts a Kids Acting Workshop. Visit the Racine Arts Council’s Musical Petting Zoo or enjoy concerts by the Lakeshore Youth Philharmonic and the UW-Parkside Community Orchestra. UW-Parkside Theatre Arts alumni stage the play “Antigone” during the celebration.
The Community and Alumni Celebration features umbrella art created for the “Shower Us with Creativity” exhibition. One hundred umbrellas are currently being designed and decorated by area artists and groups for this unique exhibition. The art umbrellas will be shown in The Rita during the April 28 event and throughout May.
