activities to do for Halloween

Pumpkinfest will be held through Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends at. There is an admission fee of $13 for all of the following: hayrides, corn maze, straw maze, pony rides, sunshine crafts, moon bounce, all mechanical rides and an exotic petting zoo.

DUNGEON OF DOOM HAUNTED HOUSE: 2701 Deborah Ave., Zion. (262) 331-0092 or www.dungeonofdoom.com. Open and 26-28 and 30-31 Tickets are $17-$40.

KROLL’S FARM: 13236 W. Townline Road, Waukegan. (847) 662-5733, www.krollsfarm.com. Kroll’s Fall Harvest Corn Maze will be open through Halloween from noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; from noon to 11 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. This year’s maze is a celebration of 10 years since their first maze in 2002, highlighted by their anniversary cake with 10 candles. Animals and pumpkin sales. Admission is $7, $5 for children 12 and under, free for ages 3 years and under.

RYERSON WOODS: Riverwoods Road between Half Day and Deerfield roads, just west of the I-94. (847) 968-3321; lcfpd.org. Halloween Hikes Oct. 26-27. Take a one-hour guided group hike along a candlelit path to watch several nature-themed, costumed performances. Finish off at a log cabin fireplace with cider and a fresh doughnut. Hikes begin every 30 minutes from 6 to 8 p.m. The skits are not scary and are designed for families with children ages 12 and under. Cost is $7 for residents, $9 for nonresidents and children ages 3 and under are free. Registration required.

SIX FLAGS GREAT AMERICA: 1 Great America Parkway, Gurnee. (847) 249-1776 or sixflags.com/greatamerica. Fright Fest will be open Oct. 26-28. Tickets are $41.99-61.99. Season pass is $64.99.

SUSANNA FARMS: 24153 Town Line Road, Lake Villa. Open daily through Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Select your perfect pumpkin for carving or decorating at home. Enjoy hayrides, corn mazes, face painting, and farm animals. The Haunted Hayride will be open Fridays and Saturday nights through Oct. 28 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Not for the faint of heart or for ages under 10. Admission is $10.

THE REALM OF TERROR HAUNTED HOUSE: Behind Kristof’s Entertainment Center, 421 W. Rollins Road, Round Lake Beach. (847) 363-8799; www.realmofterror.com. Open Oct. 26-31. Times are Sunday through Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $16-30.
