Mark Hayward’s career has a lot of ups and downs. That’s because he is a world yo-yo champion.

Hayward will be rocking the baby, walking the dog, and doing some totally unexpected tricks when he performs at the Lake Forest Library, 360 E. Deerpath Road, 2-2:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.

“I’ll be doing my typical family show, which is mostly yo-yos and tops, and then there’s a little bit of other craziness,” Hayward said. “I’ll be telling jokes. I’ll get some volunteers from the audience to help out.”

The show will conclude with a trick that Hayward did on “Late Show with David Letterman.” All he would reveal about that stunt is, “I’m going to be using a blowgun and a mousetrap to eat a marshmallow.”

Performing with yo-yos was a side job for Hayward when he was in college. To his own amazement, it’s now his full-time occupation.
