Firefighter’s last request comes true with an event to benefit Code 3 For A Cure and pancreatic cancer research Sept. 7 at Jesse Oaks, 18490 W. Old Gages Lake Road, Gages Lake. The Mo-Hawk Less Cancer Gives Back Motorcycle Benefit Ride and Jam is being held in memory of Waukegan firefighter/paramedic Kevin Oldham. Registration is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. This is an annual event that was initiated by Kevin and his family during his battle with pancreatic cancer. Kevin was diagnosed in April of 2010 with stage IV inoperable pancreatic cancer. Proceeds from this event will be divided between C3FAC and pancreatic cancer research according to the wishes of the Oldham family. Grayslake Lions Club’s 50th annual steer roast will be held Sept. 8 from noon to 5 p.m. at Grayslake Middle School, 440 Barron Blvd. Cost is $12 for adults ages 12-61, $11 for seniors 62 and older, $6 for children ages 5-11 and free for children under age 5. Eat-in or takeout are available. Also, the Grayslake Lions will offer a free diabetic retinopathy eye screening from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All proceeds from this event are dedicated to sight conservation and blind activities, hearing restoration, Community Assistance Programs and conservation activities in the Grayslake area. 3. Dog run
The annual Woof Bark Walk-Run will be held Sept. 8 at noon at the Sports Center, 2004 Municipal Way, Round Lake Beach. The course (approximately 2 miles) will begin and end at the Sports Center. There will be doggy water stations, as well as water for your consumption along the path. All dogs must be on leashes and have proof of current vaccinations. 4. Air show
Wings Over Waukegan will be held Sept. 7 at noon at Waukegan Airport, 3580 N. McAree Road. The show commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam Peace Accord and honors veterans. It will feature a downed airman reenactment, aerobatics team demonstrations, static aircraft displays, Warbirds, military aircraft, food and refreshment booths and more. 5. Art fair
Art and nature come together for the Walk in the Woods Art Fair Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum, 880 Green Bay Road, Kenosha, Wis.. There will be over 55 artists with a variety of media along trails in the woods, around gardens, and in the arboretum.
