Concert

The Baroque Band will perform at 4 p.m. Jan. 16 at Byron Colby Barn, 1561 Jones Point Road, Grayslake. In 1660, Charles II returned from exile in France as Monarch of England. While in France, he became a great admirer of Louis XIV’s violin band, “Vingt-quatre Violins du Roi.” It wasn’t long before Charlie had his own angels, called “The Twenty-four Violins,” Tickets are $15, and ages under 16 are free. Frosty Fest: Gurnee Park District’s Frosty Fest will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 21 at Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave. It will be an evening of winter time family fun. Participate in the fun activities such as horse-drawn carriage ridges, dog sled demonstrations, snowman building contest, ice sculpting, music and crafts in the “Snowflake Village,” and marshmallow roasting. Competition: The annual Miss Northern Suburbs Competition will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 26225 N. Riverwoods Blvd. The Miss Northern Suburbs Organization welcomes 12 contestants from around the northern Illinois area to compete for the titles of Miss Northern Suburbs 2011, Miss Northern Suburbs Outstanding Teen 2011 and Miss Northern Suburbs Outstanding Pre-Teen 2011. Contestants will compete in five phases of competition at the competition, including private interview, talent, evening wear, on-stage interview and lifestyle and fitness. During the competition, each contestant will also discuss her chosen platform, a social or community issue of concern to herself and our society at large. The winner of the Miss Northern Suburbs Competition will be awarded $5,250 in scholarship funds for her college or graduate school education. Performance: The Chicago Pet Expo Presents Animals After Dark Live! will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Cultural & Civic Center of Round Lake Beach, 2007 Civic Center Way. This event is an evening extravaganza starring Brian Barczyk, owner of BHB Enterprises and SnakeBytesTV, and also starring Jim Nesci, owner of Cold Blooded Creatures, along with his trained 8-foot alligator Bubba. Attendees will be glued to their seat as Jim Nesci walks out on stage with Bubba, his trained alligator and other amazing reptiles. Also, Brian Barczyk will perform with his SnakeBytesTV crew live.
