Grayslake

Performance: “The Mystery of Living Packing for Syria with Agatha Christie” was adapted and will be performed by Betsey Means March 13 at 4 p.m., at Byron Colby Barn, 1561 Jones Point Road. Agatha Christie (1890-1976) was a prolific English “Queen of Crime” author of world renown. Performance: For over two decades, the musical partnership of Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack, known as Switchback, has been entertaining audiences around the world with its unique version of driving American Roots music blended with Celtic Soul. Switchback will perform March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St. This pre-St. Patrick’s Day show will be packed with Celtic favorites and accompanied by a backdrop video presentation of Switchback’s fan tours to Ireland. Green Oaks

Farmyard Opens: The Lambs Farm Farmyard is open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and daily April 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at I-94 and Route 176. Meet Mrs. Wiggles, the 600-pound pig, climb into the petting zoo with goats, sheep and lambs, and check out the llamas, alpacas, cows, horses, ducks and more. Lake Forest

Celebration: A St. Patrick’s Day Celebration will be held March 17 at 5 p.m. at Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Senior Center, 100 E. Old Mill Road. Lake Villa

Parade and Luncheon: Lake Villa’s St. Patrick Day Parade will be held March 12 at noon. Line up begins at 10:30 a.m. at Palombi Middle School, 133 McKinley Ave. Route is Kevin to Wesley to Walden to Burnett to Sherwood to Grand to Cedar and will end at the train station. Immediately following the parade the annual Corned Beef and Cabbage luncheon will be held at the Lake Villa VFW Hall, 130 E. Grand Ave. Cost is $8, and $6 for seniors and children under 12. Meet and Greet: Westfield Hawthorn shopping center will welcome Hollywood actor Peter Facinelli for a meet and greet March 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Macy’s Court at the corner of routes 60 and 21. Facinelli played the role of Dr. Carlisle Cullen, the patriarch of the Cullen clan in the films “Twilight” and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” He also stars opposite Edie Falco in Showtime’s series “Nurse Jackie.” Autographs cost $25 and photos cost $40 (cash only). Zion

Fund-Raiser: The Kiwanis Club of Zion-Benton will hold its 28th annual Pancake Breakfast fund-raiser March 12 from 7 a.m. to noon at Zion-Benton Township High School, One Z-B Way, 21st Street and Kenosha Road. The tricycle-riding talking robot will entertain, along with children’s face painting, transfers, balloons, and storytelling. There also will be a bake sale, raffles, and Christmas tree ornaments. Pancake ticket donations are $6, $4 for children ages 10 or younger, and 10 tickets for $50. Profits from the event will be returned back to the communities in the form of donations or projects. Auditions: PM&L Theatre will hold auditions for Horton Foote’s “The Trip to Bountiful” March 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the theater, 877 N. Main St. “The Trip to Bountiful” tells the story of Carrie Watts, who is living the twilight of her life trapped in an apartment in 1940’s Houston with a controlling daughter-in-law and a hen-pecked son.
