A free garden walk will be hosted by the Gardeners of Central Lake County on July 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The walk will include four specialty gardens in Libertyville and Mundelein.
One in Libertyville features a cottage-style garden surrounding a Sears home and the first residential green roof in Lake County. The other historic home has a perennial and shrub garden with a garden wall.
In Mundelein, a garden full of whimsy features a collection of antique wrought iron garden furniture and structures. The fourth garden is an expansive, two-acre collection of botanical treasures that boasts many unusual trees and shrubs, an orchard underplanted with clematis and shade perennials, a large pond, a vegetable garden and much more.
Maps and directions for the walk are available at Cook Memorial Library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, and the Fremont Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein. No addresses will be given out over the phone.
