ART

ART CENTER: 1957 Sheridan Road, Highland Park. (847) 432-1888 David Dallison, a professional artist living in Waukegan for the last six years, is holding a family art show including his son and daughter titled “A Family Affair” through July 16. David is a renowned editorial illustrator having been published in sports illustrated, Car and Driver, National Geographic, Newsweek, Smithsonian and many more. His son and daughter have been making their livings as artists for the last 25 years.

VOLO BOG: 8478 W. Brandenburg Road, Ingleside. (815) 344-1294. Discover bogs through the talent and inspiration of local artists who have captured the essence of these peatlands in a variety of media in an art show that will be on display through Aug. 6. Many of the works are offered for ‘sale’ through silent auction. Bids are open during regular visitor center hours Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bids close at 3 p.m. July 24 during the artists’ reception in celebration of International Bog Day.

MEDLEY

Apple Holler will present “Jack and the Beanstalk” Family Fun Time through Aug. 13 Saturdays 11 a.m. Cost is $7 and will include the musical, children’s production of “Jack and the Beanstalk”, a pony ride for each child, Orchard Express train ride, the Crazy Corn Maze, admission to the Family Farm Park which includes: the newly renovated “Jack and the Beanstalk” Storybook Trail and Giant’s Slide, Beanstalk Bowling, access to The Golden Goat Bridge as well as other farm animals. Cherry Festival through July 16.

BRISTOL RENAISSANCE FAIRE: 12550 120th Ave., Kenosha, Wis. (847) 395-7773. Hours will be Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sept. 4 and Labor Day, Sept. 5. Tickets are $19.95, $8.50 for ages 5 to 12 and children under 4 are free. Kids are free opening weekend.

COOK PARK: Milwaukee Avenue between Cook Avenue and Church Street, Libertyville. (847) 680-0336. Out to lunch will be held every Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Aug. 19. Food vendors will be in Cook Park in downtown. The music lineup is The Mojo Daddies (July 15), Best Kitty Ever (July 22), Quinn Rowe (July 29).

Eat to the Beat will be held through Aug. 17 Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pavilion. The event brings live musical performances and other entertainment to families. Entertainers include: July 20 with Jimmy Mac; July 27 with Steve Beno; August 3 with Super Stolie; August 10 with Rick Kelly; and August 17 with Dave Rudolph.

Quilt exhibition, “Crazy Quilts and More by Addie Mangoian Davis,” will be on display through Sept. 30, Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, and special group tours are available upon request. Central Avenue will be decorated for a time with beautiful Barn Quilts. In addition, a variety of other quilt-related events, including a speaker’s series, workshops, and appraisals will be held throughout the six-county Northern Illinois region.

THEATER

Take part in an opportunity to meet (and maybe even sing and dance along with) famed performers from the past such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra and many more. The show is offered as a lunch or dinner theater. Cost is $49.95.

JAMES LUMBER CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS: 19351 W. Washington St.. Grayslake. (847) 543-2300. “Oliver!” will be performed July 15-16 and 22-23 at 7:30 p.m. and July 17 and 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13-16.

DR. LYNN SCHORNICK THEATRE: Bowen Park, 39 Jack Benny Drive, Waukegan. (847) 360-4740. Bowen Park Theatre Company will present the show for young audiences titled “The Frog Prince” July 15 and 16 at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8.

MARRIOTT THEATRE: Ten Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. (847) 634-0200. “Shout!” will be performed through Aug. 14 Performances will be 1 and 8 p.m. Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 4:30 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 1 and 5 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $40-$48. Senior and student discounts, and dinner/theater packages are available. “Aladdin” will be performed through Aug. 14. PM&L THEATRE: 877 N. Main St., Antioch. (847) 395-3055. Mel Brooks’ stage adaptation of his 1968 Oscar-winning movie classic “The Producers” will be performed July 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 at 8 p.m. and July 17, 24 and 31 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 and $13 for senior and students.

ROUND LAKE BEACH CULTURAL AND CIVIC CENTER: 2007 Civic Center Way. (847) 201-9032. Round Lake Area Park district will present William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”; a youth production July 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and July 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5.
