1. Looney Tunes Day

Cartoon Network presents National Looney Tunes Day July 9 at Six Flags Great America, located on I-94 at Route 132 (Grand Ave.), Gurnee. Help your favorite Looney Tunes characters celebrate the release of their new series. The Looney Tunes Show is a half-hour modern comedy series starring Bugs Bunny and his best friend, Daffy Duck. An exclusive sneak peek of the all-new cartoon will be shown at the theme park’s Pictorium Theater. The celebration also includes special Looney Tunes giveaways with the ultimate grand prize: the “Family of the Day” prize pack, which includes four Flash® Passes, four Six Flags Sports Bottles with free refills, a family meal deal, $100 in Bugs Bunny Bucks and a souvenir photo of the family with Looney Tunes characters. Access to National Looney Tunes Day is free with park admission.

2. Car show

Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave., Waukegan, will hold its annual Rides for Elders Benefit Car Show July 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cars from northern Illinois and southeast Wisconsin will gather to be judged for trophies and raise funds for Eldercare of Christ Church. The event will feature 100 collector and classic cars, DJ, exhibitor tables, food, silent auction and raffles. Registrations will be accepted on-site the day of the show beginning at 9:30 a.m. but they can only accommodate the first 100 vehicles. One free lunch will be provided per show car. There will be 15 trophies including best in class, best in show and directors’ choice.

3. Garden walks

A free garden walk will be hosted by the Gardeners of Central Lake County on July 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The walk will include four specialty gardens in Libertyville and Mundelein. Maps and directions for the walk are available at Cook Memorial Library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, and the Fremont Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein. Details, www.gclcil.com. Also, Illinois Dunesland Garden Club will hold its annual Garden Tour, a free community event, July 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nine private gardens located in Beach Park, Winthrop Harbor and Zion, will be on display. Tour guests must register between 9 a.m. and noon at the Zion-Benton Public Library, 2400 Gabriel Ave., Zion, to obtain a map of the garden locations. Details, www.duneslandgardenclub.com.

4. Summer concert

The Mark MacLeod Memorial Concert will be held July 10 from noon to 8 p.m. at Stiner Pavilion at Waukegan Municipal Beach, 201 Sea Horse Drive. Details, (847) 775-1988.

5. Ribfest Festival

Ribfest Festivasl will be held July 10 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago. Four of Lake County’s best barbecue restaurants will sell ribs and side dishes. Details, (847) 968-3477.
