GRAYSLAKE — “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” will be presented by the College of Lake County Theatre Department on Nov. 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Studio Theatre, 19351 W. Washington St.
A critical success off-Broadway and in England, this outrageously funny comedy explores what happens when three actors attempt the monumental feat of presenting all of Shakespeare’s plays in a single two-hour production. The result is a satirical romp through the world of Shakespeare at warp speed — including a backwards version of “Hamlet,” the history plays performed as a football game and “Othello” reinvented as a rap. The show was written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield.
This will mark the fifth time that Craig Rich has directed this show. The two casts, one all-male and one all female, include four current CLC students and two alums of the theater program. Each actor plays 10-18 roles, which require the actors to quickly change characters, costumes and genders in this entertaining and funny production.
“The show was created and written by three men and I’ve always cast men in past productions,” Rich said. “But this time, I was curious to see how the script, actors playing multiple characters and the many physical gags would work with three female actors. Both casts have a great sense of comic timing and are discovering how to make the script their own.”
The female cast, which includes Emilia Dvorak (Long Grove), Alyssa Klein (Grayslake) and Ashley Rodriguez (Hainesville), will perform at the 7:30 p.m. shows on Nov. 11, 13 and 19 and the 10 a.m. show on Nov. 18. The male cast, consisting of Bill Roberts (Libertyville), Lucas Tressler (Lindenhurst) and David Vasicek (Wauconda), will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12, 17, 18 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 20.
