Computers: Participants will learn about viruses and spyware and how they affect one’s computer, and how to run basic programs to clean up files Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. Registration required.
Going into Business: The workshop will help participants assess their prospects for starting their own business Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. Entrepreneur Mark Lieberman will share the lessons learned from starting four different businesses. This program is presented by the Chicago chapter of SCORE. Registration required.
Tutoring: Beginning Jan. 25 through May 16 free math help will be available to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Tutors will be at the library on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Help will be offered with math, algebra and geometry. Registration is not required, but students must check in at the Youth Services desk first. Students younger than 8 must be accompanied by a parent. For help on a different day, free online help can be found through the Web site. “Live Homework Help” is available from 2 to 9 p.m. daily.
Southern Treats: Some of the sweets mentioned in the book “The Help” Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. will be sampled in this program on the history and significance of Southern vintage treats, such as caramel cake, pralines, moon pies, petit fours and pecan pies. Author and vintage cookbook collector Amy Alessio will discuss the flavors of the South and distribute recipes to take home. Registration required.
Book Group: “All the King’s Men” by Robert Penn Warren will be discussed Jan. 28 at 9:15 a.m.

Author visit: Author Jon Yates will offer practical, money-saving advice on how to become your own consumer advocate Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. Copies of his book, “What’s Your Problem?: Cut Through Red Tape, Challenge the System, and Get Your Money Back,” will be available for purchase and signing. Registration is required.
Jewelry class: Teens can make a beaded peace bracelet Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. All supplies are provided, but bring jewelry tools if you own them. The class runs from 4 to 5.30 p.m. Registration is required.
