Carthage College, Kenosha

Concert: The Carthage Wind Orchestra will present a joint concert with the Concordia College band from Moorhead, Minn., Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m., as part of the Concordia Band’s mid-winter tour, at the A.F. Siebert Chapel, 2001 Alford Park Drive. The two bands will perform separately, then in combination for the finale. The Carthage Wind Orchestra will open the concert with Ronald Nelsons’s “Lauds, Praise High Day.” The Concordia Band, under the direction of Dr. Scott A. Jones, tours nationally each year and internationally since 1935, including a 2007 tour of Norway. Details, (262) 551-5854.

Lecture and exhibit: Internationally acclaimed Iraqi-American artist Wafaa Bilal has been selected as the Artist in Residence this spring semester. Bilal’s work, combines modern interactive technologies with provocative visuals. As a witness to, and victim of, Saddam Hussein’s brutal rule, Bilal’s reaction has been to create work that illuminates disparities between the comfortable and remote aspects of life in the the U.S. and the violence of war in Iraq. Bilal will present a lecture on “Domestic Tension” and other recent work Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Meyer Auditorium, 555 N. Sheridan Road. He will debut two new artworks, “The Comfort Zone” and “The American” Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sonnenschein Gallery in the Durand Art Institute on Middle Campus. Details, (847) 735-5019.
