Lake County
Awards: U.S. Congressman Robert Dold, R-Kenilworth, announced that the following three local students received the prestigious Fulbright Award to study, lecture, teach or conduct research abroad: Holly Bouma-Johnson of Grayslake, Mongolia; Christopher Fletcher of Waukegan, Germany; and Khalid Khayer of Vernon Hills, Turkey. Recipients of Fulbright Awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields. This program was established by Congress in 1946 with the goal of building a mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the rest of the world. Since its inception, the Fulbright Program has exchanged over a quarter of a million people in over 155 countries worldwide.
Lake Forest
One-Woman Show: In celebration of Multicultural Day, Lake Forest Academy will host actress and playwright Rohina Malik. Malik will present her one woman show “Unveiled” Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. at 1500 W. Kennedy Road. “Unveiled” tells the story of five Muslim women in a post-9/11 world as they serve tea and uncover what lies beneath the veil. This event is free and open to the public. Talent Show: The Lake Forest High School Talent Show titled “The Final Countdown” will be performed March 1, 2, and 3 at 7:30 p.m at 1285 N. McKinley Road. Tickets are $5 and are being sold on-line at www.lfhs.org. All performances will be in the Raymond Moore Auditorium at LFHS East Campus, Lake Forest, IL.
Libertyville
Celebration: Butterfield first- and second-graders will present “Yo, Leonardo!,” a musical celebration of the visual arts Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the school, 1441 W. Lake St. Butterfield parents and teachers have created art reminiscent of the greats to be displayed around the gym and an ongoing visual presentation during the show. Take a stroll through the Butterfield art gallery and enjoy songs such as “Picasso Paints the Blues,” “Vinny Van Gogh” and “Ever-Changing Gardens of Monet.” Details, (847) 362-9695.
Concert: The Rockland Winter Showcase, sporting a theme of “Rock and Roll Forever, How It All Began,” will be held Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at Highland Middle School. 310 W. Rockland Road.
