Fund-raiser: Mundelein School District 75 PTO hosted a free “Skate and Donate” event at “Just for Fun 2” Roller Rink in Mundelein recently. The event provided a free night of roller-skating fun for all district families, and an opportunity to help those less fortunate while doing so. Although entry to the roller rink was free, participants were asked to bring a donation that would benefit local families in need. Christina Weiss, district mom of three who headed up the event, wanted to make a huge impact to those in need, while also providing a night of roller skating and fun for families in the district. Over 200 people attended the event. A 12-foot truck was filled with generous donations of food, clothing, toys and games for needy families. The district PTO wanted to make a difference and were able to help many families in need through the local Chapel’s Community Care Center. The district would like to thank “Just for Fun 2” Roller Rink in Mundelein for donating a free skate night, and all of the district families who participated in the amazing event.
Donations: This fall, the Round Lake High School chapter of National Honor Society raised $1,300 which they donated to the Avon Township Community Foundation for the Avon Food Pantry. The students were given buckets labeled with information about the food pantry and went around the school asking for donations from fellow students and teachers. The goal of every student was to raise $25. With this money, the food pantry will be able to buy roughly 10,400 pounds of food. This will be enough to last the Food Pantry for a month’s worth of giving.
