Celebration: Multi-Cultural Celebration will be held at the Mass for Peace Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, 140 North Ave., followed by fellowship in the Parish Hall. Mass will include some readings, petitions, and hymns in Italian, Spanish, Polish, Tagalog, and the language of the church’s Nigerian Sisters of the order of Daughters of Divine Love. The Sisters will also bring gifts to the altar in their traditional processional and chant. The celebration continues after Mass in the Parish Hall to share in the tasting of various ethnic foods and enjoy the performances of several groups and individuals eager to share their musical traditions in song and dance. Libertyville
Program: Hearts The Same, a program to celebrate diversity and culture in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be held Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville, 219 W. Maple Ave. Community kids currently in grades kindergarten to 5 are welcome to gather for “A Day On, not a day off.” Attendees will enjoy participatory experiences in music, art, storytelling, foreign languages and more. All will have a message of awareness and acceptance. Special features will include musical, interactive activities by the church’s Chapel Music Team and a foreign language immersion segment offered by Language Stars. Hands-on art and story-telling projects will emphasize service and acceptance. Cost is $15 for the first session and $5 for the afternoon session. Registration required by Jan. 15.
