Parent meeting: Woodland Consolidated School District 50 will host its third Bilingual Parent Advisory Council meeting of the year Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodland Elementary East School cafeteria, 17261 W. Gages Lake Road. Parents of English as a Second Language (ESL) students and bilingual students are invited to attend. The meeting will feature guest speaker Sandra Gomez from Warren Township Youth and Family Services. The topic for the evening will focus on child development. Childcare will be provided. Fair: St. Patrick School will host its annual Academic Fair Feb. 6 from 7 to 8 p.m. at 15020 Wadsworth Road. Fifty-eight eighth-graders will present research projects on various topics which include Autism, The Holocaust, Salem Witch Trials, sled-dog racing, sinking of the Titanic, Broadway, the nervous system and raising chickens, as well as many others. After conducting extensive research for 12 weeks, students have compiled information into an essay, an oral presentation and a visual display. Students then assembled a display at school, as well as prepared a 5-minute speech for the judges and their classmates. The students will present their displays and give oral presentations to a panel of judges. Awards are presented to the students who rate as Outstanding, 1st place, 2nd place and Honorable Mention.
