Friends and family of a Waukegan mother diagnosed with terminal cancer will host a community car wash on Saturday, July 13, to raise funds for her hospice care and other needs.
Adriana Hernandez was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and her condition took a turn for the worse in May, according to her cousin, Julia Garcia.
“She is really ill right now,” Garcia said Wednesday, July 10.
“We don’t know if this is an episode or if this is it, but who knows? Only God knows.”
Garcia added that Hernandez has two children, including a 9-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old son who has multiple sclerosis.
This Saturday’s fundraising car wash is scheduled to take place on the northwest corner of Sunset and Lewis avenues starting at 8 a.m.
Garcia said volunteers will stay on site until the evening hours.
On July 20, a second benefit is being arranged at Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave. in Waukegan, featuring food and music.
