Award: U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized Prairie Crossing Charter School as one of 286 schools as the 2013 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools, based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in improving student academic achievement. PCCS is one of 21 schools in Illinois to be bestowed this honor. The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students’ levels of achievement. In 2012, PCCS was awarded the National Green Ribbon Award, which honors schools which exercise a “comprehensive approach to creating ‘green’ environments through reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring a high-quality environmental and outdoor education to prepare students with the 21st century skills and sustainability concepts needed in the growing global economy.
