College of Lake County, Grayslake

Benedictine University, Lisle

Honor Societies: The following Lake County graduates were honored for their outstanding academic achievements at the Honors Convocation and Hooding Ceremony held recently: Michael White, son of Kathleen White of Wauconda, was named to the Tri Beta Biological Honor Society; and Ronald Eilken Jr. of Barrington, was named to the Sigma Beta Delta National Honor Society in Business, Management and Administration.

DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind.

Scholar: Heidi Meuth of Waukegan accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing. Heidi will be honored during an Induction Convocation this fall on the campus the University. She is a 2010 graduate of Waukegan High School.

Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa

Award: Michelle Polyakov of Lincolnshire received a Top First-Year Student Award. This award is given to first-year students demonstrating leadership abilities and involvement in the campus community. She was one of 15 recipients out of 178 nominees.

Northern Illinois University, DeKalb

Honor Society: The following students from Lake County were inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, an international honor society for juniors and seniors, at Honors Day ceremonies held in April: Barrington: Christopher Casey, Allison Mass. Highland Park: Matthew Carlin. Round Lake Beach: Matthew Siems. Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest and most selective honor society in the United States that recognizes excellence in all academic disciplines, and is a charter member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Those elected to membership include upper 7.5 percent last-term juniors and upper 10 percent seniors, along with outstanding graduate students, faculty, professional staff and alumni.

Peru State College, Neb.

Top Cats: Ariel Kumpula, a freshman elementary education major from Gurnee, was selected to represent the college as Student Ambassadors and Top Cats during the 2011-12 academic year. Ten new PSC Ambassadors will work with high school students, transfer students and other visitors interested in learning more about the college. Their primary duties include leading campus tours, sending follow-up communications, assisting with special Admissions Office events, contributing to overall recruitment efforts and serving as official hosts of the college. To qualify for the position, candidates must be current, full-time students who have completed at least one semester at PSC. They must also have and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Ambassadors receive a quarter tuition waiver and $150 stipend each semester for their service.
