APPRECIATION DAYS: Chiro One Wellness Centers will host special free Summer Luau Patient Appreciation Days July 14 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. at 149 E. CANCER AWARENESS: The nonprofit organization ‘Guns N’ Hoses 4 A Cure’ will host a familyn event called, ‘Mutual Aid 4 A Cure’ July 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Village Park/38 Acres, 2700 9th St., Winthrop Harbor. Families will enjoy a variety of vendors, entertaining safety demonstrations by local, federal and state level police, sheriff and fire/rescue departments, as well as many organizations supplying information regarding all forms of cancer and promoting cancer awareness as it applies to those in public safety work. FUND-RAISER: The Vernon Hills Police Department will host its annual 5K race July 17 at 8 a.m. Participants in the event, known as the ‘Run From The Cops’ 5K, may either run or walk a scenic course starting at Century Park, north of Route 60 on Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills and extending up and through the Gregg’s Landing subdivision, before ending back at the park. All of the proceeds will go directly to the Sentinels of Freedom, who provide four year “life scholarships” to help injured U.S. Service Members become self-sufficient after returning home. The $30 advance registration fee ($35 on race day) includes a professional B-tag chip for timing, a commemorative T-shirt (and other goodies) and a post-race continental breakfast.
