Candidate withdraws: Jay Krasne of Gurnee said Friday he is teaming up with Rick Lesser and officially endorsing Lesser’s candidacy for the Lake County Board in District 13. Krasne submitted a “withdrawal of candidacy” to the Lake County Clerk’s Office on Thursday to remove his name from the March 20 Republican primary ballot. With Krasne pulling out of the contest, it leaves Lesser of Lake Bluff and David Barkhausen, remaining in the primary contest.

Sente forum: State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, will host a budget and legislative forum to hear directly from residents about ideas to improve Illinois as she prepares for the 2012 legislative session. Residents of the 59th House District are encouraged to attend the event which will take place Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Laschen Community Center Century Room, 294 Evergreen Drive, Vernon Hills.

Grant GOP: The Grant Township Republican Club will meet Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Grant Hall Museum, 411 Washington St., Ingleside. Revised by-laws, voting for 2012 officers and discussing the plan for the Lincoln Day Dinner next month are on the agenda. There will be a meeting of the Lincoln Day Dinner Committee following the close of the general meeting. Membership dues for 2012 are due and refreshments will be served.

Tenth Dems: Tenth Dems has organized a training seminar for Lake County residents who want to become deputy voter registrars. The training session is conducted by the county clerk’s office, and once you complete the session you will officially be able to register others to vote. The Lake County deputy voter registrar training will be held Monday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. at Tenth Dems Community Connection, 118 N. Genesee St., Waukegan. You must be 18 years old and registered to vote in Lake County. If interested, contact volunteers@tenthdems.org, or call (847) 266-VOTE (8683).

Cuba GOP: The Cuba Township Republican Committee has voted to endorse the county and state candidates seeking office in the March 20 primary after endorsement interviews Jan. 14 at the Barrington Public Library. Endorsed are: David McSweeney in the 52nd House District; Bryan Winter for Lake County state’s attorney; Keith Brin for clerk of the circuit court; Bob Bednar for recorder of deeds; Steve Newton for coroner; and Nick Sauer for Lake County Board, District 17.

Gaffney endorsed: The Illinois Chamber of Commerce PAC has endorsed Kent Gaffney for state representative in the Republican primary for the 52nd House District. “Kent Gaffney has been a friend of the Chamber for many years,” said Doug Whitley, president and CEO of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. “He has worked with us to pass pro-jobs, pro-business legislation that will help get Illinois back on track.”

Yancey endorsed: Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey has been endorsed for coroner in the March 20 Democratic primary by state Sen. Terry Link of Waukegan, chairman of the Democratic Party in Lake County, and by former U.S. Sen. Adlai Stevenson III.

Morrison endorsed: The mayors of Deerfield and Highland Park have endorsed West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison for the 29th Senate District to replace Susan Garrett, who is retiring at the end of this term. Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering’ made the endorsement, long-time Highland Park Councilman Steve Mandel said, “Julie’s experience in government and knowledge of Springfield makes her the right candidate for the 29th Senate

Carey endorsed: Democrat Pat Carey, in her bid for re-election to the Lake County Board, has received the endorsement of Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor and Hainesville Mayor Linda Soto. Carey, a former Grayslake mayor, has served on the County Board since 2008 and is running for re-election in the newly drawn District 6, which encompasses all of Grayslake and Hainesville, as well as portions of Round Lake Park and Round Lake Beach.
