Lake County
Tollway work: The Illinois Tollway has approved the award of a construction contract award of $432,071 to Allied Landscaping Corp., Joliet, for landscaping and improvements on the Tri-State Tollway between Roosevelt Road and Sanders Road, and between Lake-Cook Road and the Wisconsin state line.
Training grant: The College of Lake County has received a $119,700 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to be used to offer an engineer technician training program in partnership with the Black Chamber of Commerce of Lake County. The program will qualify graduates for entry-level employment opportunities at IDOT, and credits earned in the program may be applied to a civil technology associate degree at CLC. Fifteen students will be recruited primarily from disadvantaged and underserved populations in Lake County. The Black Chamber of Commerce of Lake County will help recruit the students and will also provide training in workplace and interpersonal skills, tutoring and job placement. The grant period is from Jan. 15 to Aug. 31.
Vernon Hills
Route 45 hearing: The Illinois Department of Transportation will be holding a public meeting regarding widening and improvements of Route 45 from Route 22 to Route 60 on Feb. 7 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Vernon Hills Park District Sullivan Center, 635 N. Aspen Drive.
