Disgraced Marines
I served 11 years in the Army and 17 1/2 months in the Republic of Vietnam. The soldiers who urinated on the corpses of the enemy have disgraced themselves and their fellow service members. It will put all other service members in greater danger. What they did is a criminal act and it was wrong.

Hey, Skipper!
Concerning the captain of that cruise line ship who accidentally fell into the life boat while his ship was sinking. What ever happened to the captain going down with his ship. I bet you never watched “Gilligan’s Island.”
English station
What’s going on with WKRS changing their radio station to Spanish language? What happened to the people that speak English in this English-speaking country? Now we won’t have an English station to listen to? This is atrocious. What is going on?
Seven years
I read in The News-Sun about the sister-in-law that got seven years for that Melissa Best death. What is wrong with our country? That lady should get life or the death penalty. She sat there and watched her sister-in-law die and she got seven years? That’s ridiculous. Those guys in Afghanistan who urinated on the enemy will probably get life and their careers will be ruined. I think this country is backward and it’s disgusting.
Art and the beholder
In response to the Jan. 21 article “British artist featured in year’s first ArtWauk.” You call that art? It looks like a drop cloth that I had used after I painted my living room. This is what they think will bring Waukegan back? Come on, this is a joke. Is this the type of people we’re going have living at the Karcher Hotel? They take a piece of canvass, grab a brush, paint a line across it and call it art? Too bad I got rid of my Crayons 40 years ago.
Sticker dilemma
Waukegan has mailed out the vehicle license application for the new year. I see a big dilemma since they cannot get all the people to purchase the required license. I have seen people not buy the license for three years and Waukegan has no power to catch these violators. Why is that, Mr. Mayor and aldermen?
WKRS friends
I’ve been listening to WKRS since it first came on the air. Now it’s all going to be in Spanish. They’re taking everything away from us. I feel like Waukegan has nothing for me anymore. The biggest part of my day was listening to WKRS. Now I have lost my best friends and it makes me very sad. I feel like there’s nothing here for me anymore. I will miss WKRS because they’re a great bunch and I’m just sorry they’re leaving.
No-bid agreements
Pertaining to the North Shore Sanitary District. Taxpayers need to realize that the engineering firm from Wisconsin, which runs the new state-of-the-art sludge recycling facility and receives most of the no-bid engineering agreements, is run by the “retired NSSD general manger.”
Their level
In response to the TOTC item “In my shoes” regarding the soldiers urinating on corpses. Of course I was appalled at the actions of our soldiers being dragged through the streets and being blown up by bombs. But to use that as an excuse, for our soldiers to drop to their level and to say that it’s all right is ridiculous. I am proud and glad to think that American soldiers should act better than those who act upon us.
Coyote spotted
On Jan. 21, a man saw a coyote jump his 5-foot fence in a Knollwood neighborhood at Route 176 and Waukegan Road. The houses are very close together and there’s a gas station on Waukegan Road with a stop-and-go light.
Your list
Enough already. With all the violence to grasp, the bad economy and the problems in our area and our country in general, you have to keep going after Judge Hall. Why is he on your list? There’s a lot more serious problems, so give it a rest.
Ankle monitor
Why was someone with a history of eight burglaries on the street to commit another one? And how does someone with an ankle monitor, due to a long history of offenses, freely walk about committing two more burglaries? Sounds like our police are in the know and doing a great job, but why are the courts allowing this to happen to us?
The tradeoff
To the person who was complaining about all the wind farms in Europe. What you should be more concerned about is the Waukegan power plant at the lakefront. It produces over 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide greenhouse gases every day, and that’s in your front yard if you live in Waukegan. Now what would be a better tradeoff? Some wind farms out west or 12,000 tons of pollution each day in your front yard polluting the city and creating health issues?
WLIP listener
I have already switched my radio station to WLIP.
Question of trash
I live in Beach Park and have three neighbors that don’t have garbage pickup service. Where does the garbage go?
Ballet bravo
The “Swan Lake” ballet performance at the Genesee Theatre Jan. 21 was awesome. A huge thank you to all the dancers and everyone involved for a beautiful, beautiful performance. It was a fun evening at the Genesee Theatre.
Beating the system
This is to the system player in TOTC. I know you’re one of them because you have got this thing down pat. Whoever didn’t know how to beat the system you have now helped them out. I don’t beat the system, but you’ve got a good plan here, and I know you’re working it, too. You have a good thing going on.
Waukegan recycling
About Waukegan’s tardiness in having a good recycling program. It’s a travesty that they still have those small bins for recycling. It would be reasonable for them to adopt the large rolling recycling bins as many other jurisdictions do. It doesn’t cost that much to have rolling bins for garbage and recycling. At this point with the small recycling bins, a lot of recyclable material is going into the waste stream and can be avoided. It would cost about $75 per quarter for recycling, garbage and yard waste. That’s not a lot of money. Waukegan should adopt that system as soon as possible and bring it up to date.
