WAUKEGAN — Three bomb threats early Thursday morning temporarily closed the three buildings of the College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus.
The college instituted its emergency operations system and cleared the buildings of students and nonessential staff. The outside and inside were searched, but nothing suspicious was found.
A Cook County Sheriff’s Police bomb-sniffing dog was brought in to recheck the buildings before they reopened at about 2 p.m., said Evelyn Schiele, executive director, public relations and marketing.
CLC has three buildings, 1 N. Genesee St., 33 N. Genesee and 111 N. Genesee, that make up the Lakeshore Campus. This is the second week of the new semester.
Schiele said the first bomb threat, which was nonspecific, was made to Waukegan police around 1 a.m. Thursday. A second call was received just after 7 a.m. that was more specific to the Lakeshore Campus and then shortly after, there was a third bomb threat. All three were made by a male caller.
The sweep by staff and CLC police did not turn up any suspicious packages or backpacks. The morning classes were canceled and the school sent out an emergency text and email to students, and also posted information on the school’s Web site. Nothing was affected at the Grayslake or South Lake County campuses.
“At the very least it has inconvenienced a lot of people,” said Schiele, “It was not a good thing.”
