Talk of the County

BORN RICH

Mitt Romney shows us that it’s easier to get richer if you’re born rich than it is to get rich if you’re born poor. Unless you get elected to Congress.

Wonderful gift

I would like to thank Alison Graham of Waukegan for donating money out of her pocket for the 10 mesh beds for the North Chicago Animal Control. It was such a wonderful gift that she gave them and I only wish that the residents of North Chicago would follow in her footsteps and start caring for their own back yard.

Do the time

In regard to the article in TOTC “Record of expungement”. This person states that he has a problem getting a job because he has a felony. It’s just another example that if you do the crime, then you’re going to have to do the time — plain and simple. Let that lesson be passed down to your children and grandchildren and maybe that will keep them on the straight and narrow. As for you, you did the crime and it’s your problem.

Animal rights

Great job on the Jan. 26 article “New beds, new attitude at dog pound”. It meant so much for animal rights. Come on people, you have to help! Start donating so Ted McClelland can do more for the dog pound and the animals. Donate, food, blankets and anything else. We have to stick together. Great job!

Purple Hearts

Purple Hearts for policemen? Give me a break. I am very sorry that you got injured when you were chasing a criminal, but it wasn’t like you were shot. You’re downgrading what the Purple Heart stands for. It is meant for somebody wounded in service that is serving and protecting our country overseas. Those are the only people that should get this honorable award.

Out of the community

Regarding the article in The News-Sun that said North Chicago is ready to name a black interim police chief. That confuses me because he is from out of the community. It was stated by Valerie Devost, Bonnie Mayfield and a couple of other people in North Chicago that they would not accept a white investigator or a white police chief because they were white and from out of the community. The proposed interim chief is all the way from Chicago. Also, what about the white lawyers that they’re using from out of the community to sue the city and collect their money? So, you can accept white employees as long as they are getting money for you.

Market demographics

Please let the WKRS thing go. The decision was made and based on a very simple business philosophy called market demographics.

Doing their part

I find it humorous that the organization “FIST” (Former Inmates Striving Together) has adopted a section of roadway in Waukegan and it just happens to be in front of the police station.

Tax the rich

Obama says we should tax the rich. If you tax the rich, they will go somewhere else. That’s just common sense. Why isn’t Obama giving up 15 percent of his income voluntarily to the IRS? It’s because nobody gives up nothing for nothing. It’s called capitalism.

The right buttons

Kudos to the great President Obama with another successful mission. Obama sent troops over to Somalia and rescued two hostages. He’s been pushing all the right buttons. He’s had almost every terrorist killed and ended the Iraq War during his reign. He is one of the most successful war presidents. Just look at the statistics and see what the man is doing. Another job well done, Mr. President, and here’s to another four more years.

Eye for an eye

Everyone is upset about the Marines urinating on the corpses of the Taliban fighters. How is it OK for the Taliban fighters to decapitate Americans on video and air it on television? Were they concerned about the laws of war then? An eye for an eye!

Diaper bank

I saw a story the other day that claimed one in three moms struggles with “diaper need.” In other words, they can’t afford disposable diapers. My first question would be, where are the dads? If my wife and I had been unable to afford diapers, we would have postponed having babies until we could afford to take care of our baby’s basic needs, such as diapers and food. An alternate suggestion would be to do what we actually did: Use cloth diapers. Again, if parents are unwilling to wash and dry cloth diapers for their baby, maybe they should postpone having children. Having a baby is a serious commitment with implications extending many years into the future. Your baby is not the community’s responsibility, it’s your responsibility.

Voice an opinion

I just want to thank TOTC because I really enjoy the articles and especially when I am able to voice my opinion.

Abbott layoffs

In reference to Abbott. It’s been two years straight that they’ve laid people off in this area and they’re sending all their merchandise overseas. People are very fond of Abbott, but they only care about the shareholders.

Abbott jobs

Obama even wants to take credit for all these jobs he’s making, but all I see in the paper is that for every job he claims he makes, two are lost. There are 700 jobs at Abbott right now going down the drain.

Zion Democrats

Where are the Democrats in Zion? We’ve seen that the Republicans have messed up and now our city is bankrupt and the City Hall is getting ready to be sold. People in Zion, please register to vote and get some Democrats in there so we can hose stuff down. The mayor doesn’t even come to work anymore. What is going on in Zion?

Wonderful stories

I would simply like to acknowledge the stories that Dan Moran writes, particularly “A silent stroke” commentary about Sen. Mark Kirk. He just seems to capture the essence of the subject he’s writing about. I truly enjoy his articles and I hope to be able to do so for quite some time to come because I think he deserves to continue with his wonderful stories. Keep up the good work.

Burning garbage

Regarding the TOTC item, “Question of trash”. This person states that they live in Beach Park and have three neighbors that don’t have garbage pickup service. So where does the garbage go? It’s because you’re allowed to burn your trash in Beach Park. I live in Beach Park and I’m in the process of getting out of Dodge as quickly as possible. This area has turned into a slum with abandoned cars parked all over the place on people’s properties. It looks like a shanty town.

Insult to veterans

In regard to the five Gurnee cops who received a “purple heart” for their injuries. This is an insult to all the men and women who have sustained serious, life-threatening wounds, had arms and legs blown off, in defense of our nation. Isn’t it enough that police are called heroes? The word is used so loosely by the media and society that it has lost all meaning, it’s become hollow. If I were one of the officers receiving this so-called “purple heart,” it would be an embarrassment to me and I would immediately refuse such a decoration that was once reserved only for the soldiers protecting this nation’s freedom.
