Talk of the County

Wadsworth agenda
I couldn’t agree more with the writer who said Glenn Ryback and the village trustees are ruining Wadsworth. These people do not care about our community. They clearly have their own agendas. While residents have looked inward during trying times to care for their families, these people have sadly taken advantage. They are not representing us and we need to clean house.
King Barack
Kudos to the person who said in TOTC about Obama and his great war record. You, as a Democrat I assume, proved the Republicans right with one phrase: “He’s had almost every terrorist killed and ended the Iraq war during his reign.” The key word is “reign,” and who has a reign? Kings do! And Obama has shown the entire country that’s how he wants to be treated — like a king!
A county road
To those of you who feel Wadsworth is being ruined. Have you ever really looked at downtown Wadsworth in its decrepit state? Wadsworth Road is a county road, not a village road. It is up to the county to decide on how to maintain it. If there is so much opposition to the Wadsworth Road project, why is it that only approximately 10 people showed up at the last (and most critical) Lake County Board meeting on Jan. 17 to voice their opposition? A traffic study was completed and the traffic count is 17,000 cars per day justifying a four-land highway, not a two-lane highway with a turn lane as planned. If you want to blame someone for the progress in Wadsworth, you will have to blame the voters that voted for the trustees who revealed what they were going to do when they ran for office and are now living up to their promises. If only the rest of our government entities throughout the country would do the same, wouldn’t it be nice?
Military might
If Republicans had their way, we seniors would not get monthly checks from Social Security, but our Air Force would have more jet fighters and our Navy would have more aircraft carriers. Does that seem right to you?
WRLR-FM
We are losing WKRS, but we have WRLR at 98.3 FM in Round Lake Heights. That’s a Lake County station and I’m sure if you give them a call, they’ll cover more news throughout the Lake County area.
Jobless ground hog
Thanks to global warming, Punxsutawney Phil will soon be out of a job.
Job qualifications
Regarding the article in TOTC about minority hiring. I don’t care what race or color you are, people should be hired on their qualifications. I’ve worked 37 years in construction and have worked with all kinds of people and I don’t think it’s right that we should be hiring on just that fact alone. It should be on qualifications and that’s it.
Freeloaders
It must be nice to be freeloader. You get to retire before you get a job. No wonder the country is broke.
A new regime
There are serious problems within the North Chicago mayor’s office. The mayor needs to step down and the chief of staff also needs to step down because she’s holding two positions so citizens and workers can’t get anything done. Nothing can get done in North Chicago until these people step down, clear out and bring in a new regime.
Where’s the jobs?
Where are all the jobs in Lake County? I’ve been out of work for two years. I’m an American and would love to have a job. What’s going on in Lake County? I’d like to know.
SEAL teams
If Obama is such a great war president, why is it always eight men and a dog, the SEAL team, doing all the work?
Definitional purity
The “Purple Heart” award given to some Gurnee police officers has brought about some confusion. Basically the “Purple Heart Medal” is given only to military personnel for wounds received in action against the enemy. There is no restriction on granting a “Purple Heart Award” or “Purple Heart citation” or anything sounding like “The Purple Heart Medal” as long as you do not use those exact words in the exact combination. Our police (or firemen), who are often injured (wounded) in the line of duty (protecting our citizens), are essentially doing the same thing and should qualify for a similar “Purple Heart”-type of award. It’s only fair. If a police officer gets shot by a thug, shouldn’t he or she get the same recognition as a soldier/sailor or Marine would get if shot by an enemy? Lets quit sniping over walls of definitional purity.
Writing tickets
Apparently all the work in Waukegan is completely done and everything is perfect because I see the city clerk has time to write tickets. If they looked around, they would see what a mess this place is in, and maybe if they got the work they’re supposed to do done first, then they could have time to worry about tickets. My neighbor still has his garbage sitting out on his lawn which has been there at least four weeks and nobody has bothered to come by and make him clean it up.
Their fair share
The rich have gotten away with not paying their fair share of taxes for too long. If it weren’t for the working class buying their products and services they wouldn’t be rich to begin with. They say the rich produce jobs, but the jobs are in foreign countries, so they can be rich while our own people are paying for everything.
Zion city
Can anyone tell me how the citizens from Zion can get together and discuss what we all know and how to start a petition drive to get our city back? Soon!
Learn English
To the person that called in about learning Spanish. Excuse me, but we are living in the United States of America. Why should I have to speak Spanish? If you come to our country, you should learn to speak English, which is the language of this country you’re living in. I admire people that can speak two or three language, I know I can. Learn and speak our language and learn our customs. I will respect your customs if you respect mine. Learn English.
Gov. Walker
“On, Wisconsin” straight into fascism. Forget the 99 percent of the people who have to work for a living. Governor Walker of Wisconsin cost tens of thousands of workers their jobs and put Wisconsin near the bottom of the Midwest states in job creation. He’s the best governor money can buy. Now the people who were stupid enough to vote him into office want to kick him out. Is that such a surprise?
Foolish behavior
The Republican Party consists of millionaires and fools.
Armored vehicle
What does Winthrop Harbor need an armored vehicle for? This is a small community. This is ridiculous.
Pitching in
Excellent idea from Waukegan’s 4th Ward alderman! Everyone needs to pitch in. Those other career aldermen that only legislate, allowed millions to go missing with the last administration, led us to debt and legislated the undoing of English in Waukegan. I also suggest pitching in with code compliance and legislating some oversight to property sales that allow multiple adults to buy single-family homes and move their multiple families with six cars/adults and children in.
Real dunces
Gov. Quinn has stated that he would like to see universities and school districts assume more responsibility for pension costs. Despite the large increase in income taxes, the state cannot support these generous benefits, so his solution is to try to get more pension dollars through methods that will lead to increased tuition and property taxes. Our state leaders are great at revenue raising ideas, but real dunces as far as cost cutting.
Clubhouse gatherings
I had the unfortunate experience of attending several recent Lake County Board meetings. The level of partisanship displayed by this board in general and the extreme arrogance demonstrated by several board members in particular was extremely disappointing. This group invents one excuse after another on why they have no interest in listening to the concerns of county taxpayers. They show little respect for each other and even less for county residents who dare to attend their clubhouse gatherings — aka, public meetings. We deserve better government representation than this crowd.
Pipeline jobs
Where did President Obama go after killing off thousands of Keystone XL pipeline construction and manufacturing jobs? Why, Disney World, of course. Sabotaging work is hard work for Goofy and his pals. And where’d he head after that? Why, up to Manhattan for more high-priced campaign fund-raisers charging up to $38,500 per partier.
Trivia pursuit
The recent trivia article in The New-Sun forgot to mention the fun trivia game in Waukegan at Greentown on Genesee Street every Wednesday night featuring Steve Westphal as host. Gotta try it. It’s a wonderful evening and its so much fun!
Downtown bustling
We came to Waukegan on Jan. 21 for “Swan Lake” and the art show and, to my surprise, the city was bustling! The roads looked like it didn’t even snow and the sidewalks were cleaned, also. My hats off to the city and the public works department for a job well done. We enjoyed coming to your city.
Hard times
I would like to comment to “Hardship happens”: I’m sure the people they were talking about weren’t the ones who have hit hard times. They are referring to the people who are sitting on their behinds on public aid and not trying to help themselves, and having baby after baby to get more assistance.
