Talk of the County

Backed into a corner

I see the powers that be at Warren High School rescinded the order to make all their coaches resign. It’s a shame they had to be backed into a corner by bad publicity to do the right thing. If they wanted to institute change, they got it. They’ve changed the way a lot of people in this community look at Warren administrators and it’s not in a favorable way. This whole fiasco was an embarrassment.

A better idea

Regarding the article in TOTC “Bring back food stamps.” This person states that we should get rid of the Link card and let then go back on food stamps, it would save a lot of money. I have a better idea, get rid of Link, WIC and food stamps and let them go back to work. That would save a lot of money and there will be a lot less lazier people in the world.

Death in jail

The death of Ms. Gomes is worse than a tragedy. How about a timeline going back from her day of arrest? Why was a foreign national summoned to jury duty? Jurists are taken from the rolls of registered voters, Only citizens are entitled to vote. Extended-stay hotels do not constitute permanent addresses. What address was listed on her driver’s license and what two IDs were used when applying for the license? Who issued it and where? Who registered her to vote and where? Most Indian women I know are not big people and a 52-year-old would hardly present the image of a violent person, so why was there a need to cuff her hands behind her back? How long did it take to discover she was not eating — 83 days in jail? This just opens up the justification for presenting photo identification when voting.

Holding back jobs

To the person who claimed that Bob Dold and the Republicans haven’t produced a single solitary jobs bill. The Republicans have produced 18 job bills which were passed in the House and sent to the Senate where Harry Reid and the Democrats haven’t passed one of them. As far as the jobs go, Obama is the one who canceled the Keystone Pipeline which would have produced 20,000 union construction jobs, along with 100-plus thousand salaried ancillary jobs where the construction workers would have lived, eaten and slept in those towns. I think the Democrats are the ones that have been holding back jobs.

Who knows?

Regarding global warming. We’ve had a really warm winter, but the arctic region and Europe are experiencing an extremely cold winter. Who knows?

Robbed by Congress

In regard to the recent “Darts and Laurels” in the paper which mentioned the post office is running in the red. They’re not exactly running in the red per se. They’re being robbed by Congress and that’s what puts them in the red. The obsessive obligations put on the post office to pay 75 years of future health benefits for people that aren’t even born in the space of ten years is just a new form of robbery. They’ve been using post office money to run the country since 2006 when that act was passed. When we can overturn that with House Bill 1351 then the post office will be back in the black again.

A poll tax

If a state enacts a law requiring ID cards for voting, then that state must pay all costs to produce the ID cards and mail them to all registered voters. If the voters are forced to pay for the ID cards then they are paying a poll tax which is clearly illegal.

Go figure

The Warren High School Board has decided that they’re not going to fire their coaches every year and make them reapply. Brilliant. This is the same school board that put in a $750,000 artificial turf at their football field. They also built that road from the south end of the Almond Campus and have to relocate the track field at their own expense. Only a school board could figure out something like that.

The scores

I’m glad that WKRS is going Spanish. We’ll now get the scores from the soccer fields that were so important that they razed Orchard Hills Golf Course.

Acting like Christians

For the last three decades, Republicans have talked about how Christian they are. I anxiously await the day when they start acting like Christians.

Chrysler and Clint

The Chrysler ad that aired on the Super Bowl with Clint Eastwood sounded great except that you need to read between the lines. “This country can’t be knocked out with one punch, we get right back up again,” Eastwood growls. Could be read as a show of support for President Barack Obama and the auto-industry bailout. Unions must have loved this ad, especially because the Obama bailouts were strictly for the unions — not for the workers as many were laid off!

Pot in school

Regarding drugs in school. If the parents in Lincolnshire don’t think that an ongoing investigation that the teachers and police are pursuing is wrong. Think again. Marijuana is a very, very big problem in Lake County schools. We also have people from Chicago moving to the suburbs which is a problem. So parents let the officers do their job and you may learn something about your kids.

Writing tickets

If the Waukegan aldermen aren’t able to issue parking tickets then how can City Clerk Wayne Motley and his employees give up writing tickets? Who authorized them to do so?

Honest living

I agree 100 percent that the middle class pays for everyone. I immigrated to the U.S. 18 years ago. I work seven days a week and bust my butt to make an honest living. Then I see people who not only get their food paid for, but also medical expenses, housing and receive extra cash on top of it! They live off of the government, also known as me. I pay thousands of dollars in taxes every year. Yet I can’t even receive health insurance because it is too expensive. So where is my help?

Caving in

Shame on the Susan G. Komen Fund for caving into the Planned Parenthood people. What does birth control have to do with breast cancer anyway? They never should have been supporting Planned Parenthood in the first place and I for one won’t be supporting the Komen fund anymore if that’s where the money goes.

Legislative pay cuts

You’ve got to start at the top. All the politicians, lawmakers and the Legislature in general have to take a pay cut before we can get this country back to normal. They get all these big benefit packages that seems to be fine with them, but it’s not good for anybody else.

Moving on

Thank you to the person that wrote in about WRLR-FM. I was wondering where everybody went to from WKRS. Is that where Libby Collins is also because I really enjoy listening to her as well as Lenny Palmer. I will be tuning out of WKRS and I will be switching to WRLR at 98.3. Thank you WKRS for all that you have done. Things do change in the world and we must move on. We all must learn to get along.

Righteous pay

If forced unionization and minimum wage laws are so righteous and compassionate, then why not make the minimum wage $40 per hour? That would be fair, right?
