Antioch Rescue Squad will benefit from women’s kisses in a fund-raiser now through March 10, sponsored by Living Well Hair Studio, 955 Victoria St.
Customers who try on lipsticks can “kiss” a card, sign the back and post it anywhere on the walls of the salon, explained stylist Alicia Chess. “20 percent of the sale of any lip product goes toward ARS, and a purchase gives the participants additional kisses. ARS volunteers will pick their favorite kisses and the winner will receive a nice gift basket.”
The salon’s esthetician Lisa Burch came up with the idea. “The idea came from a trade magazine and it seemed appropriate for February and Valentine’s Day,” she explained. “We wanted to give back to a local organization and we chose the rescue squad because so many of our customers are familiar with or benefited from their services.”
“We appreciate their thoughtfulness,” said Rescue Squad Chief Wayne Sobczak. “We are cautious of people using our name for fund-raisers, but the business has been supportive of ARS for many years.
“It will be especially nice for our female staff members, who are going to be treated to some special services on March 10. Every little bit helps, and it ties in with Valentine’s Day very nicely.”
The fund-raiser has already generated a good response, said Burch. “Some of our customers are purchasing lip products but many are just donating outright.”
Besides awarding a gift basket for the best kiss on March 10, from 1 to 3 p.m., salon employees will do mini-services and offer gift cards to ARS volunteers after presenting them with thank-you cards and the donations gathered during the 6-week fund-raiser. Anyone is welcome to attend the open house and refreshments will be served. “You can donate kisses up until the last minute of our fund-raiser,” said Burch.
Besides Chess and Burch, the whole salon is involved, including owner Lisa Mertes, stylists Samantha Mertes and Sarah Wagner and Sharon Johnson, massage therapist.
“People seem to really enjoy kissing the papers, which they sign on the back and post anywhere in the salon, including on the designated kissing wall,” said Burch.
“We will offer smaller gifts to other kisses favored by the ARS volunteers, but mostly this is about the rescue squad volunteers. We want to treat them and thank them for all they do for our community,” said Burch.
