Updated: March 11, 2012 8:47AM

A reputed Round Lake Beach gang member was arrested Wednesday on weapons charges in McHenry County on a fugitive warrant.

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said Thursday that Efrain Velazquez, 17, was taken into custody without incident by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the Round Lake Beach Police Department at 5305 West Lane, McCullom Lake.

Velazquez, whose last known address in Round Lake Beach was at 1209 Sunset Ave., was wanted by Round Lake Beach police for aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and defacing identification marks of a firearm. Additional charges are pending.

Early on Feb. 5, Velazquez allegedly became involved in a verbal argument with the victim who was allegedly shot in the leg. Velazquez later fled the scene.

He also was a suspect in another possible gang-related shooting which occurred in Round Lake Beach on New Year’s Eve. Round Lake Beach detectives learned a group of five subjects were shot at in a drive-by shooting possibly committed by Velazquez.

His bond was set at $500,000.
