ANTIOCH — An alert neighbor spotted a fire at his neighbor’s home Thursday night and made sure the family got to safety as fire trucks arrived.
There were no injuries in the fire just after 9:30 p.m. at 46 W. Old Mill Trail in the Millcreek Subdivision.
“A fortunate family and a good neighbor,” said Antioch Fire Department Chief John Nixon. The neighbor spotted the fire outside near the house’s chimney and alerted the family, who evacuated safely.
The fire made it up the attic on one side of the house. Firefighters had the flames knocked out in about 10 minutes.
Damage was estimated at $75,000 and there was also about $20,000 in damage to the contents of the home, which had moderate smoke damage, Nixon said.
The family was able to stay at the home after one broken window was boarded up and the smoke was dispersed by firefighters.
The cause of the fire has not been officially determined, but it started next to the house in a plastic flower pot with cigarette butts inside.
