Talk of the County

Wondering

Even with the perfect site at Fountain Square, we are losing the casino to Park City. Makes one wonder about Senator Link, the mayor and the government.

Cleared for landing

I’d like to rebut the “Commander in Chief” article. I agree the Commander in Chief does not dress up as a pilot and strut around the deck of an aircraft carrier unless he is a pilot.

Bus crash

I’d like to make a comment about the Zion West Elementary School bus accident where the driver hit a garbage truck. I have been a volunteer at the school for the last 10 years, and I was very touched by how the teachers, the entire staff and everyone got together and was there to support those kids. A lot of us went over to the accident and stayed with the children, including our assistant principal. At a time of need like this, it was just great to see how everyone helped one another out at that time.

Comedians employed

I have this theory that Republicans are really trying to create jobs in one industry: The American comedy industry. Hundreds of comedians have found employment thanks to a whole host of truly incredible Republican candidates for president. With these candidates, the jokes just write themselves.

Factual information

Many times people in TOTC are right on the issues with factual information and positive ideas. However, the Waukegan School Board did not vote its employees a 4 percent raise. That was an agreement between the administration and the union. The teachers had not had a raise in three years and did not go on strike. The school district is not $10 million in the red. In fact, it’s one of the few districts in this state that is not in the red at all. A very competent administration has kept Waukegan Public School District 60 in the black throughout these critical financial times. To me, it’s just an absolute wonder that this caller had enough information and knew how to make a call.

Beach shuttle

I’d like to congratulate the member of the F.I.S.T. organization for wanting to have a beach shuttle, I think it’s terrific. We went to the beach last summer and saw how they had opened a little food stand. It was clean and the food was good. It was so nice to sit out there on the deck looking out on the water and eating a hot dog. Good for them for wanting to do something great for Waukegan and the beachfront.

Out of touch

I’m a Republican, but Mitt Romney barely knows that the middle class exists. He said he made a little money last year giving speeches. The speeches totaled $345,000. With just that amount, he’d still be in the top 1 percent of the nation’s most wealthy. He’s way out of touch.

They cover this?

When is the Catholic Church going to start screaming about medical insurance coverage for Viagra?

Sure sign

I live in Park City and I was looking out my window toward the south, which is a wooded area, and I saw a whole flock of robins. So spring is on the way.

Four freedoms

The First Amendment of the Constitution contains the four freedoms. It’s very important that all Americans know and understand the four freedoms, especially the freedom of religion. It is not freedom from religion.

Komen Fund money

Regarding the Susan Komen Fund and Planned Parenthood. It was mentioned in TOTC that Planned Parenthood provides medical services, including breast exams and mammograms. I don’t know about the exams, but I do know they do not provide mammograms. They only refer for mammograms. Why do they need this money from the Susan Komen Fund?

No problems

If only men got pregnant, then we would have no problems with abortion or birth control.

Abandoned pets

To the person who thinks money should not be spent on unwanted pets. There should be no unwanted pets at all. There is no excuse for leaving a pet behind, dumping them or in any way abandoning them. Your pet depends on you for everything and in return you get unconditional love. Imagine how they feel to be thrown away like garbage. You owe your pet his lifetime of commitment and love. They are not disposable. It’s a great thing that there are places that will care for them when their irresponsible owners betray them. Every pet I have had has been one that no one wanted and they were and are just wonderful. Try it you’ll like it.

Hey, grandma

What do you call a woman who doesn’t allow her daughter to practice birth control? Grandma.

Swimming against the tide

As soon as President Obama think he’s going to dip his toe into the pond of religion, he better run. I don’t know how good of a swimmer he is, but he’s not strong enough to swim in that pond.
