Breakfast: The Vernon Area Public Library will host the 22nd annual Presidents’ Day Library Legislative Breakfast Feb. 20 at 8:30 a.m. the Arboretum Club, 401 Half Day Road. Contest: The 6th annual Metra Safety Poster and Essay Contest is under way. This year’s campaign, themed “Lead the Way: Look, Listen and Live,” invites students from the six-county region to submit posters and essays that raise train safety awareness. Art ceremony: Leaders and staff from the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, in conjunction with the Koziol Family Foundation, are scheduled to join veterans and military artists at a Panel Fair, which will showcase 37 pieces of original artwork by Lovell FHCC veterans and military members Feb. 23 at noon at Lovell FHCC, 3001 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, The 30-minute event will include comments by Lovell FHCC leadership and the Koziol Family Foundation, followed by a question-and-answer period with the artists. Guests will be able to vote for artwork by either casting a vote at the facility or online at www.facebook.com/LovellFHCC. The top 18 pieces of art will be on display at the facility and will be the inspiration for a larger canvas mural, scheduled to be painted Summer 2012 and permanently displayed at the facility.
