Twenty-nine people were arrested for underage drinking and one person was taken to the hospital for overconsumption of alcohol after Vernon Hills Police broke up an underage drinking party on May 13.
At 12:12 a.m., police received an anonymous 911 ambulance call at a residence in the 1700 block of Pebble Beach Way of a report of someone that drank too much, according to Vernon Hills Police Officer Sharon Joseph. Several officers arrived at the home and found some empty beer containers in the yard. Police contacted the homeowner who allowed officers in to search the house. Officers then went downstairs to the basement of the house where they found an underage drinking party of 29 people, between the ages 18 and 20, Joseph said. One of the individuals had consumed too much and was transported by paramedics to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was treated.
Joseph said about half of the other suspects submitted to portable breath tests and the other half declined but were still charged.

All the suspects were released and given notices to appear in court on June 14 in Mundelein.
The 39-year-old homeowner was not charged. Joseph said the homeowner claimed he was upstairs on the second floor watching television at the time of the party and was not aware there were so many kids in the basement or that they were consuming alcohol. Police determined the homeowner had not supplied the alcohol and there was not enough evidence to charge him with a social hosting violation, she said.
