Maristella fund-raiser: Maristella, Ministry for Homeless Women and Children, 745 N. Milwaukee Ave., is holding fund-raisers throughout the month in recognition of 14 years of service to more than 3,700 families in Lake County. Fund-raisers include a get-together on Friday, Oct. 12, at Mickey Finn’s, 412 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. LGBT day: The Lovell Federal Health Care Center hosted an inaugural Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month Celebration on Thursday, Oct. 11. The event was coordinated through Lovell FHCC’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies Special Emphasis Program. Lovell hosts a LGBT/A special emphasis committee comprised of FHCC civilian and active duty military staff. James Darby, president of the Chicago chapter of American Veterans for Equal Rights, was the keynote speaker.
Show: The Puppet Underground will present Halloween-themed Puppet Slam shows Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. and Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at ArtWorks, 5002 7th Ave. Admission to both shows is free, but donations will be accepted. Seating is limited. The Puppet Slam Network describes a Puppet Slam as existing at “the nexus of vaudeville, burlesque and performance art.” These events may not be appropriate for children.
