ZION — Police on Thursday released a photograph of the type of vehicle they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a Waukegan man.
Parts recovered from the scene indicate the vehicle was a red 2004 to 2008 Scion XB, though recovered parts also fit some Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Police are checking with local body shops as part of the investigation and are seeking the public’s help in finding the vehicle.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the dead man Thursday as Francisco Avila-Castro, 20, of 1200 block of Fulton Street, Waukegan, who died of multiple traumatic injuries.
The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 33rd Street and North Geneva Lane, Zion police said.
About five minutes later, police received a call of a person lying in the roadway in the 2400 block of 33rd Street. Responding officers found a man dead on the scene, having suffered severe traumatic injuries, police said.
According to police, the injuries and physical evidence appeared to be consistent with a hit-and-run vehicle/pedestrian accident.
Anyone with information on the accident or the vehicle should call Zion police at (847) 746-4106.
