WAUKEGAN — Three apparent thieves made the mistake of trying to burglarize a house only to have a neighbor alert police which led to the capture of two of them.
Police said Friday the incident began around 4 p.m. Tuesday when officers were called for a burglary in progress at a home in the 900 block of Grove Avenue.
Officers arriving on the scene saw the suspects, who fled in different directions. Police set up perimeters and used K-9 units to search for the suspects. Two of them were quickly caught.
A third person was questioned and released without being charged and a fourth is still being sought for questioning.
Edwin Valentin, 20, of the 1600 block of Victoria Avenue, North Chicago, and Oscar Nunez, 17, of the 1300 block of Judge Place, Waukegan, were arrested and gave voluntary statements to police about their roles in the burglary attempt.
Both were charged with residential burglary and theft and are being held at Lake County Jail on $25,000 bond.
Nunez has been charged as an adult, police said.
