Forum: Prairie Circle Unitarian Universalist Congregation will present a public forum on the selection process of candidates and the workings of the U.S. House of Representatives Oct. 18 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Bryon Colby Barn, 1561 Jones Point Road. Melissa Bean, former representative for the 10th district from 2005 to 2011, will be the speaker. The forum will be led by Dr. Michael Merritt, a political science instructor at the College of Lake County. Pocket copies of the U.S. Constitution will be handed out. LFA fund-raiser: Lake Forest Academy has announced the public phase of a $60 million comprehensive campaign. The school’s Be a Part of Something BIG: Campaign for LFA began in 2005 and has raised more than $50 million. Funds have been used to increase the endowment, upgrade and expand faculty housing and athletic facilities, and build a new girls’ dorm, Ferry Hall. Additionally, leadership gifts and pledges have enabled LFA to break ground on a state-of-the-art science center due to open in August 2013, and renovate existing academic space. The public fund-raising phase, the first campaign of its kind in the history of LFA, will run to June 2014 with an aim to raise an additional $10 million.
