The former Antioch Rescue Squad treasurer could face up to seven years in prison for allegedly stealing more than $12,000 from the squad, according to Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville.
John Edgell, 54, was arrested for theft for allegedly exerting unauthorized control of Antioch Rescue Squad funds. At the time of the arrest on Friday, a total of $12,618.12 was missing, according to Somerville. Edgell has been the rescue squad’s treasurer for the past decade. He recently resigned, Somerville said.
Theft is a felony punishable by 3-7 years in prison and a possible fine up to $25,000.
Police continue to investigate, Somerville said.
Bond was set at $2,000 Saturday. He is due back in court Nov. 6. He was ordered to have no contact with Antioch Rescue Squad, Somerville said.
