VERNON HILLS — A registered sex offender faces jail time for allegedly posting a sex-based advertisement on Craigslist.
David Costello, 42, of 490 Bay Tree Circle, has been charged with violating the law regarding sex offender registration.
According to Vernon Hills police spokeswoman Sharon Joseph, an officer was making a routine visit to Costello’s home when the advertisement was found open on a computer.
Joseph said sex offenders are required to report what Web sites they’re registered to or frequently use. Failing to report such activities, according to Joseph, is a felony punishable by at least a year of incarceration.
According to court records, Costello was originally charged with sexual abuse on Oct. 18, 2004, for allegedly soliciting sex from a 15-year-old child.
He pleaded guilty in 2005 and was placed on probation, given 200 hours of community service and required to participate in a sex offender treatment program, according to court documents.
At the time of his arrest, Costello resided on the 500 block of Everett Road in Lake Forest.
