Guns, drugs seized in two Waukegan raids

WAUKEGAN — Two search warrants served by police has resulted in the confiscation of heroin, cocaine, high-grade marijuana known as “Kush,” guns and lots of cash.
In the first case, Gang Intelligence Unit officers went to 814 Massena Ave., after a number of neighborhood complaints about it being a possible drug house. Police took Frank Gordon, 33, into custody after finding 11.7 grams of heroin, two .380-caliber handguns, drug paraphernalia and $3,500 in cash.
Gordon was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession with intent to deliver, unlawful possession within 1,000 feet of Glen Flora Elementary School, armed violence and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Gordon was being held on $200,000 bond.
During the raid they also found Tavares Reed, 19, of the 1400 block of Seymour, North Chicago, who had 1.4 grams of marijuana and he was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said. According to records, the house is owned by Gordon’s mother, who was home at the time of the search warrant. She was not charged.
In the second, case a search warrant was served at 422 Oakwood Ave. Edel Gallardo, 18, and his stepfather, Oscar Garcia, 45, were arrested after police found approximately 102 grams of cocaine, 26 grams of high-grade “Kush” marijuana, two digital scales and more than $19,000 in cash.
Gallardo was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession with intent to deliver and his bond was set at $100,000. Garcia was charged with the same offenses and his bond was set at $50,000.
“These were two very successful search warrants. I am always happy to get guns out of the hands of criminals,” Police Chief Dan Greathouse said Monday of the two raids conducted late last week. “Not only were able to seize such large amounts of drugs, but taking such large amounts of money will severely cripple their chances to continue to traffic drugs in this community.”
