Kits: With the help of a grant from the Illinois Attorney General’s office, CUB plans to hand out more than 1,000 weatherization kits to seniors and families hit hard by the economic downturn in North Shore Gas territory. Most of the kits will be distributed (one per family) at three events, while supplies last: Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Community Action Partnership of Lake County, 1200 Glen Flora Ave., Waukegan; Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at Park Place Senior Center, 414 S. Lewis Ave., Waukegan; and Dec. 4 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Zion-Benton Public Library, 2400 Gabriel Ave. The kits include four Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs), a window-insulating kit (seals up to six windows), a caulking gun, foam tape, and other material for sealing off money-wasting gaps — all in a sturdy reusable tote bag. Along with the kits, CUB will hand out publications on cutting telecom bills, as well as information about CUB Energy Saver (www.CUBenergysaver.com). For more information, call (800) 669-5556.
