Grayslake

Open house: Save-A-Pet’s Holiday open house will be held Dec. 1 and 2 from noon to 4 p.m. at 31664 N. Fairfield Road. There will be holiday gifts, baskets (including dog and cat gift baskets), a bake sale and raffles. Also, an animal blessing and a tree lighting ceremony will take place Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. Visitors with their dogs on leashes are all invited and every adopted cat and dog will go home with a special gift this weekend. Deerfield

Benefit: Deerfield Park Foundation is gearing up for a 5 percent Community Giving Day Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Whole Foods Market, 760 Waukegan Road. Park Foundation directors will be present at the store from 4 to 7 p.m. to interact with customers and provide anyone interested with information about projects such as “recognition-based giving,” purchase of recycling containers, Grants-in-Aid, College/Post Secondary Institution Scholarships and more. The project targeted to benefit from the proceeds raised from Giving Day is the Linda Gryziecki College/Post-Secondary Institution Scholarship. This Scholarship, established and awarded for the first time in 2012, provides $1,000 toward tuition for the upcoming school year to an accredited institution of higher learning in the U.S. Applications will be considered from current/recent high school graduates and/or current/ incoming college students in their first through third year. Applicants must be either Deerfield Park District residents or Deerfield Park District volunteers or employees who have worked or volunteered a minimum of 25 hours over the course of the year preceding the application date. Mundelein

Santa: Mundelein Community Connection announced that Santa Claus will arrive at Santa’s Cottage at Park and Seymour streets Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Santa will be available for personal visits until 8 p.m.; and he will return on Dec. 1, 8 and 15 from noon to 3 p.m. This year, Santa’s Cookie Cottage, which will be open whenever Santa is in town for free refreshments, has been fully renovated and restored by Boy Scout Ben Wingender of St. Andrews of Troop No. 198 as his Eagle Scout Project. Round Lake Beach

Presentation: A breakfast presentation titled Veterans Benefits Basics followed by a ceremony to honor community veterans will be held Dec. 7 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Supportive Living, 76 E. Rollins Road. Veterans will be honored individually. The community, along with veterans and their family and friends, are welcome.
