Talk of the County

Driving around, I’ve noticed three homes with ladders sitting outside of them. The only way you could be more helpful to burglars is to leave the front door open or leave the key in the lock.
I’d like to comment on the big game dinner that Ducks Unlimited sponsored at Maravela’s. I’ve been going to those dinners for years and they do a fabulous job and I’d like to thank them. The only complaint I have is over the years they’ve lowered their age limit and they have little kids coming to these events. I think that with all the alcohol, guns and all the adults, there shouldn’t be anyone under 21 allowed. I hope they would reconsider and take it back to adults only, the way it used to be. I don’t think it’s a safe place for kids and it makes it a little uncomfortable having them running around.
I can remember a time when high school basketball games were played in gymnasiums packed with fans. These were events that brought together a community, students, parents. All were interested in cheering on the home team and welcoming the visiting team and their fans. Now we are seeing games played in gyms devoid of spectators. What’s next, no cheerleading? This is sad and disgraceful.
Well, it’s time for the people to speak up again. It’s leaf-burning time in those cities/villages that don’t give a heck about anyone else. So, if you have a child with asthma or have trouble yourself, stay indoors. Beach Park and Zion could care less about people who have breathing issues, probably because the people who sit in the commissioner chairs or trustees burn themselves. Thank God, Winthrop Harbor has the brains to stop the burning — for the most part at least.
Christopher Vaughn killed his wife and his three children and is only sentenced to life in prison because of Illinois’ weak-kneed governors. Now the taxpayers of Illinois will feed, clothe and shelter this jerk for the rest of his life.
With all the congressional hearings taking place and all the people being questioned who can’t remember, don’t know, or never heard of such a thing and are just plain dumb, maybe some good old waterboarding should be instituted and that might refresh some memories.
Just ban Waukegan and North Chicago fans from any basketball fans. The rest of the county is civilized. Why punish them?
