HIGHWOOD — A public hearing on the city’s draft comprehensive plan will be held Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 17 Highwood Ave.
“This public forum is our city’s way to look at where we are now and the direction we want to move forward in, to build a stronger community — all with the public’s input,” said Debbie Koenitz, acting chairman of the Highwood Plan Commission. “Input from the community is very much valued and important as we focus on community building and a strong Highwood. This is truly a very positive time of transition.”
Officials said the draft is the culmination of more than two years of effort, which included hundreds of hours devoted by volunteers serving on the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and the Highwood Plan Commission, as well as significant public input. The city’s last plan was revamped in 1996.
The draft plan incorporates a long-term vision for Highwood that focuses around strengthening the residential neighborhoods, and enhancing the business districts to promote greater stability and viability for Highwood, officials said. The plan identifies key objectives and opportunities that will help achieve these goals.
Copies of the draft are available for review during normal office hours at City Hall and the Highwood Public Library. The draft plan is also available online at www.hlplanning.com/highwood.
