A bullet found in a classroom at Kenneth Murphy School in Beach Park has sparked an investigation.
According to a letter from Beach Park School District 3 Superintendent Robert DiVirgilio, the bullet was found Thursday by a staff member after school. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called and deputies picked up the bullet, did a safety check of the area and found nothing else that would be cause for additional concern.
The Sheriff’s Office has had extra patrols around schools since the school massacre in Connecticut. On Friday, an additional presence by deputies was made at the school, 11315 W. Wadsworth Road, and the principal had a meeting with one of the detectives. The caliber of the bullet was not disclosed.
“At our schools, we have always had and will continue to take a no-tolerance approach to behavior that is a threat to health and safety. We will continue to keep you informed of any and all situations that arise at Kenneth Murphy School regarding this situation,” said DiVirgilio.
