Recycling: The City has partnered with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) and invites all Lake County residents to recyclable old electronic equipment, clean polystyrene products (#6), CFL light bulbs, batteries and holiday lights items Jan. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon to the Public Works Yard/Firearms Training Center, 1180 Half Day Road. The drop-off program is also available every Tuesday and Friday between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. In accordance with the Illinois Electronics Products Recycling and Reuse Act, it will be illegal for landfills to accept the following electronics: televisions, monitors, printers, computers, electronics keyboards, fax machines, videocassette recorders, portable digital recorders, digital video disc players/recorders, video game councils, small scale servers, scanners, electronic mice, digital converter boxes, cable receivers and satellite receivers. Ice rink: The basketball and volleyball courts in Century Park North have been turned into an ice rink near the sled hill at 1401 Indianwood Drive. The ice rink opens the weekend of Jan. 5 and will be lighted until 9 p.m. daily. The Pavilion’s restrooms are open daily and the warming shelter will be open weekends from 1 to 9 p.m., when either the ice rink or sled hill is open. The Pavilion will be staffed on weekends offering free loaner ice skates and concessions will also be available for purchase. For the most up-to-date skating conditions call (847) 996-6616.
