WOODSTOCK — McHenry County authorities are investgating a fatal crash involving an elderly Lincolnshire driver.
A 63-year-old man was killed Friday when the car he was driving was struck head-on by a 2012 Lincoln MKZ which was westbound in the 22900 block of Route 20, just east of Johnson Road in unincorporated Marengo Township, when it entered the eastbound lane and struck a 1998 Honda sedan head-on, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the Honda, 63-year-old Stephan Ford of Garden Prairie, near Rockford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Lincoln, 86-year-old Roderick Mann of Lincolnshire, was taken to Centegra Hospital Woodstock by Marengo Fire Protection District paramedics and treated for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
The Lincoln’s air bags deployed and Mann was wearing his seatbelt, police said. Ford was not wearing a seatbelt and the Honda did not have airbags.
The McHenry Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner’s office are investigating.
