WAUKEGAN — Two teenagers are being held on $100,000 bond after they used a handgun to rob a victim in the area of 10th Street and Elmwood Avenue. They were caught shortly after the crime.
DaQuan Green, 16, of Carol Stream and Zuri Blackmon, 17, of the 1700 block of Marion Graves Court, North Chicago, were both charged as adults with armed robbery.
Police were flagged down by the robbery victim on Jan. 3 around 9 p.m. around 10th and Elmwood.
He said he had just been robbed at gunpoint.
The two suspects were located a short distance away and North Chicago resident Blackmon still had the .25-caliber handgun in his waistband, Waukegan police said Tuesday.
Police said both suspects gave voluntary statements to detectives and they are being held in Lake County Jail.
Police Chief Daniel Greathouse said the arrest was a good example of quick-acting police work combined with a victim that was able to give a good description of the suspects.
“Although these suspects are technically juveniles, I feel that the crime they perpetrated warranted an adult charge and I am glad that the State’s Attorney’s office felt the same,” said Greathouse.
