Three Waukegan men were indicted by a Lake County grand jury on first-degree murder charges.
Armando Sanders, 19; Anthony Brito, 20; and Steven Gee, 21, are accused of breaking into a Waukegan man’s apartment while he was home with his two young children, police said. The three men are alleged to have met before the robbery.
A fight started in Randy Hardy’s apartment and continued in the hall. Hardy wound up getting shot multiple times and died at the scene from four gunshot wounds to the head and torso.
Neighbors said Hardy was well liked even though he was dealing marijuana.
Brito is accused of personally discharging the gun that caused Hardy’s death, according to court documents. Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of 25 years to life.
Brito and Gee face 35 to 75 years in prison if they are convicted because they are alleged to have used a firearm during the commission of the offense, according to court documents.
A 9mm semi-automatic handgun was used during the offense, according to court records.
All three men are in custody at Lake County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond. Sanders and Brito are due for arraignment Jan. 15 and Gee is due for arraignment Jan. 17.
Sanders listed baby-sitting as his occupation, according to court documents, while Brito listed “tattoo” as his. Gee wrote that he was unemployed, according to court documents.
