Lake Forest

Benefit: The Women’s Board of Catholic Charities, Lake County Services, will hold its annual Kick-Off Luncheon for the Art of Caring Gala titled “Changing Lives with Hope” Feb. 6 at 300 N. Green Bay Road. The featured speaker will be social entrepreneur Connie Duckworth, former partner and managing director of Goldman Sachs. She is chairman and CEO of ARZU, which means “hope,” an organization which empowers destitute women weavers in rural Afghanistan. ARZU provides access to education and basic healthcare, builds community centers and creates award-winning fair-labor rugs. The luncheon raffle features a grand prize of a $1,000 gift certificate toward an ARZU Studio Afghanistan Woven Rug or $500 cash. Tickets are $60 and registration is due by Jan. 28. Lake Villa

Open house: Lake County Public Works has scheduled a public information open house meeting on the drinking water supply for the Fox Lake Hills water system Jan. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Elementary School District, 515 Thompson Lane. The water system includes Fox Lake Hills, Orchard Gardens, Amber Shores and Columbia Bay Estates. Residents will learn more about the current drinking water supply system and the county’s efforts to secure a permanent, long-term solution to the community’s drinking water needs. Round Lake Park

Vacancy: Avon Township Board will be accepting applications to fill a vacancy in the elected office of Avon Township Clerk. The current term is set to expire May 20. Any interested applicant can pick up an application packet at the Township Supervisor’s office which at 433 E. Washington St. Application packets are due back at the Supervisor’s Office no later than Feb. 5 at noon. All applicants must be a resident of Avon Township as well as be either a registered voter or able to register to vote. Avon Township includes all or parts of Grayslake, Hainesville, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Park, Round Lake Heights, and Third Lake. For more information, call (857) 546-1446.

Vernon Hills

Closing: The cardio and weight training rooms at the Vernon Hills Park District’s Sullivan Community Center will close permanently Feb. 2. The fitness equipment is moving to the District’s new facility, Lakeview Fitness. The aerobic room and gym will remain open at the Sullivan Community Center. Lakeview Fitness, 700 Lakeview Parkway, will temporarily close the cardio/weight training room Jan. 30 through Feb. 2 for improvements including new flooring, paint, and the transition of fitness equipment from the Sullivan Community Center. Lakeview Fitness will re-open their cardio/weight training room Feb. 3 at 8 a.m.. All members who currently utilize the cardio/weight training room at Lakeview Fitness are invited to workout at the Sullivan Center Fitness Room from Jan. 30 through Feb. 1. Benefit: Boys & Girls Club of Lake County will host its 13th annual Crystal Ball benefit Feb. 23 at Cuneo Mansion and Gardens, 1350 Milwaukee Ave. The evening will begin with cocktails in the turn of the century Italianate villa where you will discover fine antiques, Renaissance paintings, tapestries, sculptures, silver and porcelain. Dinner, an auction and dancing will follow with music by Maggie Speaks. Funds raised through the benefit have a major impact on the club’s ability to serve youth. Tickets are $200 before Feb. 2 and $225 after Feb. 2. Tables of 12 are $2,400.
